C3 is a comprehensive cloud-based suite of applications that cater to solving complex challenges for foodservice operators.

Short for Custom Catalog Creator, this suite is designed specifically to help businesses adhere to a new FDA final rule that is part of section 4205 of the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act. This ruling requires certain chains of restaurants, convenience stores, and other away-from-home channels to clearly disclose specific nutritional information.

C3 consists of three products: Inventory Trak, Nutrilabel Pro, and a third unnamed product currently in development. Inventory Trak optimizes food ordering and production through increased supply chain visibility and predictive analytics while increasing a business’ ROI. Nutrilabel Pro enhances the look of your product’s labels and keeps your business compliant with FDA nutritional and labeling guidelines.

Since C3 and all of its subsequent programs were all created in-house at Blue World, I oversaw every single aspect of design and front-end development. From production to customer consultation, branding, FDA compliance, mobile testing- every single piece of code and color in these products has my fingerprints on it. It was an enormous undertaking and it’s one of the projects where I can say that I was part of something special.

Process & User Flow

Currently, the C3 suite consists of two active programs, Nutrilabel Pro and Inventory Trak.

Before C3 became a suite, it was initially a single tool that (eventually) evolved into the Nutrilabel Pro program. The Nutrilabel user flow is fairly straightforward and operates like an eCommerce tool (for producing and ordering label materials) and integrates a content management structure similar to a CRM. As the aperture of C3 expanded to become a suite, the user mapping expanded as well.

Layout Examples

With the addition of the Inventory Trak program, figuring out how to have the user toggle between these two very data-heavy programs was initially quite the headscratcher. The simplest solution presented itself: a small, but distinct dropdown in the main navigation allowing the user that control.

Logo Designs

The full name of the C3 suite is Custom Catalog Creator, and the primary idea for all of the logos were centered around the theme of threes: the three Cs in the name, the three tiers of the pricing structure, the fact that a third piece of software was in the ideation process as I was designing these logos, etc. This same thinking applied to the color choices: bright tritones that needed to live together in harmony.

When it came to branding the programs inside the C3 suite itself, I was heavily influenced at the time by trends in Scandinavian typefaces I was seeing online. The primary C3 branding typeface needed to compliment and live next to the Blue World’s Material design system I had created for the software itself, but still stand on its own. The primary font for C3’s branding became a Finnish sans-serif called Jaapokki.

Signup Website

Once the beta versions of both Nutrilabel Pro and Inventory Trak were built, a signup website was needed for people to get updates and gain access to the suite itself. It’s a simple signup website by design- all killer, no filler. It details the C3 suite, each of the software’s features, how much each access tier will cost, and it lives within the branding and design language I created. An overhaul of the signup website is underway.
